A fascinating talk, stunning food, congenial table, and a spectacular setting. An altogether fabulous evening. Bravo. --Steven Raichlen, Author and Project Smoke Host |
Conversation about Food and Oceans:
hosted by Big Green Egg and Monterey Wines Association
Eating Sea-Stainable – a whopping 90 percent of the seafood Americans eat is imported from distant seas. How a few simple steps – eating American, expanding your palate and choosing farmed filter feeders like oysters – will give our oceans and local fishermen, a fighting chance. The two-part conversation includes an intimate Q&A with best-selling author and oceans advocate Paul Greenberg, followed by a reloaded roundtable with island educators and local scientists. "The Gather happening in Martha’s Vineyard was just about the best event an author could hope to experience. An excellent panel, a witty moderator, a stunning setting, wonderfully prepared locally sourced food and an informed, receptive audience all contributed to a deeply enjoyable evening. But best of all was a feeling of warm authenticity. The island was in its finest, purest form this night and I think anyone who participated will long feel the glow." -- Paul Greenberg |
Conversation about Food and Waste:
Hosted by Big Green Egg and Monterey Wines Association
We will eat our words if Tristram Stuart, activist, author, change agent and expert on the environmental and social impact of food waste, and Doug Rauch, founder of the Daily Table don't change your attitude towards how you buy and throw away food. Just think—every year some six billion pounds of U.S. fruits and vegetable go un-harvested or unsold, often for aesthetic reasons. We think it’s time for the ugly carrot to have its day, but it requires a big shift in how we think about our food. |
Conversation about Food and Art:
Hosted by Big Green Egg and Featherstone Center for the Arts
Food can be the centerpiece of celebrations, a tool of war, fuel for life, and perhaps the path to salvation for both the self and for humanity. What about food as art? Our guests participatory sculpture, video, and food performance artist Jennifer Rubell and musician and founder of Consensus Sally Taylor took us on a romp to explore this idea, weaving in experiential activities and a grand island feast. |
