Oyster Farm Sunset Tours

Picture
Experience the magic of oysters first hand! Learn about where and how oysters are grown, how they're grown and meet the people behind their story.

This tour combines oyster education, farm tour, oyster tastings and a little mischief sailing to our farm aboard the beautiful ‘pirate vessel’ Sea Gypsy X, a custom made 40 foot wooden boat.

Guests will meet at the dock of Pirate Adventures Martha's Vineyard. Once we set sail, we will dive into a talk with biologist Rick Karney from the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group to learn about shellfish and what aquaculture is all about. At Cottage City Oyster farm, brothers Dan and Greg Martino will introduce us to their nursery and
how they grow, care and harvest their oysters (and we get to see the process in action). Our adventure is topped off with a shucking demo of fresh oysters, sampling of oysters and a sunset sail through the Nantucket Sound and back to the Oak Bluffs Harbor.  Read more here.

The two-hour experience includes:
  • Conversation and hands-on learning with a local biologist
  • One on one with local oyster farmers
  • Live shucking demo
  • Tasting of Oysters
  • Cheese, and other local snacks
The tour is BYOB.

The journey is safe for younger kids, but the program ideally suited to adults and children 10 and up.
